Russian President Dmitri Medvedev on Thursday appealed to the international community to facilitate ceasefires in the Middle East and Northern Africa and to organize talks between all sides there.

"The serious challenges underway have a historical meaning and could pave the way to the transformations," Medvedev was quoted by local media as saying.

The president expressed Russia's concerns over the frequent military operations and the death of civilians in the conflicts.

"The task of the international community is to facilitate, according to the UN Security Council's resolutions, the end of military operations and the organization of the negotiations with participation of all the parties concerned," Medvedev said.
