French President Nikolas Sarkozy said Tuesday that his country would continue to support Afghanistan after troops' withdrawal beyond 2014.

Addressing a joint press conference with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai here the French leader said that parts of his troops will come back home before 2012.

Some 4,000 French troops have been stationed in Afghanistan within the framework of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to help strengthen security in the militancy-plagued country.

After the pullout of troops from Afghanistan, President Sarkozy said his country would assist the post-Taliban nation in the fields of health, agriculture, archeology and good governance.

Majority of French troops have been deployed in Kapisa 65 km north of capital city Kabul and Sarubi district 60 km east of Afghan capital Kabul.According to media reprots 64 French soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.

In the first phase, according to media report, France would withdraw 1,000 troops from Afghanistan.

Afghan government is going to begin taking over security responsibility from over 140,000-strong NATO-troops later this month and the process as per schedule would be completed by 2014.
