A 25-year-old man has taken hostage of a woman on a train in the southwest French city Bordeaux on Wednesday evening, police said.

The abductor armed with a knife and the hostage, around 40 years old, didn't seem to know each other, said the police.

The National Police Intervention Group has been sent to the site, the station in Bordeaux, according to local media reports.

Primary investigation said the man has demanded a review of his sentence, but no more details were exposed on the issue.

Earlier reports said at least two women have been taken hostage by the knife-armed young man. Some 15 people in the same cart were safely evacuated though the man initially tried to stop them from leaving.
