Polish, Swiss presidents discuss relations, EU presidency

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski met with his visiting Swiss counterpart Micheline Calmy- Rey on Thursday and discussed relations between the two countries, Poland's presidency of the EU and the situation in North Africa.

Speaking at a press conference with Komorowski, Calmy-Rey hailed Polish-Swiss economic relations. For Switzerland Poland is an economic partner comparable to Russia, she stressed.

Switzerland wants to develop its relations with Poland as well as with the EU. Switzerland is keenly interested in assuring economic and social stability in Europe, the Swiss president said.

President Komorowski stressed that growing bilateral trade was a source of satisfaction in Polish-Swiss relations.

The Polish president presented to his Swiss counterpart the priorities of Poland's presidency of the EU starting on July 1.

Switzerland is not an EU member but has a special bilateral relations with the union.
