There is no threat to Ukraine's neighbors as the Sea Breeze 2011 military exercises are being held in the Black Sea region, a Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.

"There is no potential or real threat to any country in the Black Sea region," said Alexander Dykussarov in a statement, adding that these exercises could not be dangerous for Ukraine's neighbors.

The statement came after the concerns voiced by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Sunday over the appearance of a U.S. guided missile cruiser in the Black Sea region.

The Monterrey cruiser, equipped with the AEGIS ballistic missile defense system, was currently taking part in the Sea Breeze 2011 military exercises, which were launched by Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on June 6 in South Ukraine's Odessa and Nikolaev regions.

The Ukrainian government has permitted U.S. Navy ship Grasp to enter the territorial waters of Ukraine to participate in the training in late May at the request of a written appeal of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
