The number of young people taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning has risen sharply, according to the report alcohol intoxications published on Tuesday.

The report was made by researchers of the Twente University. Last year pediatricians saw 684 children who had drunk too much, which is an increase of 37 percent, compared to 2009.

From 2007 to 2010, at least 1,800 young adults have been treated in the hospital. But the actual numbers are much higher, as a result of the fact that the young adults who have been treated by a GP haven't been included in this number. The average age of a binch drinker is 15.6 years.

" "There is one bright spot," according to pediatrician Nico van der Lely. He cooperated in the writing of the report. "The average age of binch drinkers has risen. Two years ago the average age was only 15 years."
