France envisaged possible the kidnapping of three French people who missed in Yemen last week, Bernard Valero, spokesman of Foreign Affairs Ministry, said Monday.

"The hypothesis of abduction is gaining credibility. But in the absence of any claim, it is premature to make definitive conclusions," Valero said after a daily press briefing.

"We therefore continue to explore all the leads and work closely with the Yemeni authorities, police and security in particular," he added.

Yemeni officials said three French nationals were abducted last week when they were leaving a restaurant in the province of Hadramout. They work for the non-governmental organization (NGO) French Triangle, in the country since 1998.

France's expatriates have been the target of terrorist groups following the country's foreign policy mainly in Afghanistan and its attitude towards the sensitive issue of the Islam.

Four French workers of Areva and Satom companies were kidnapped on Sept. 16 by al-Qaida branch in North Africa. Reporters of France 3 channel Stephane Herve and Gesquiere Taponier are still in hands of abductors in Afghanistan since Dec. 29, 2009.
