A large number of requests the Russian Investigative Committee (IC) has sent to foreign countries asking for judicial help remained unanswered, head of the committee Alexander Bastrykin said on Tuesday.

Speaking in the Russian Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Academy, Bastrykin complained that some countries draw out to a great length, in some case even two years, or do not respond to the international warrants issued by Russia, Interfax news agency reported.

According to the official, Russia sent 538 warrants on the criminal investigations that have been underway in 2010. In turn, Russia responded to 602 warrants received from the foreign countries.

Bastrykin also noted the Russian IC has been closely cooperating with the relevant institutions of European Union, Israel, India, China, Japan and some other countries.

He said the major task of this cooperation is combating international terrorism and human trafficking.

Investigative Committee as an independent entity was created in December 2010. It was a part of the Prosecutor General's Office.
