Police have detained several people on suspicion of involvement in the rush-hour bombing attack in the Minsk metro Monday evening, Belarusian Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Shwed said Tuesday.

Shwed, quoted by RIA Novosti, the Russian news agency, said the bomb was placed beneath a bench at the Oktyabrskaya metro station, a key transit point in the city's subway system, at after-work rush hour Monday evening.

The Belarusian ministries of interior and emergency situations also denied the rumors that an explosion occurred on a bus in Minsk Tuesday morning.

Monday's explosion left 12 people dead and 204 others injured, according to the latest official figures.
