Portuguese FM receives Kaddafi's envoy

Portuguese Foreign Minister Luis Amado received on Wednesday an envoy of Libyan leader Muammar Kaddafi. The meeting occurred in a Lisbon five-star hotel.
The Portuguese government did not reveal the location of the hotel, the Libyan envoy's identity or his role in the Libyan government. The meeting was a result of a request from the Libyan envoy.
According to sources with the Portuguese Foreign Ministry, the Libyan envoy briefed the minister on the current situation in his country and how Colonel Kaddafi sees the outcome of the conflict in his country.
According to the foreign minister's spokesperson, the acceptance of the meeting was discussed with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton.
The reason for the meeting is that Portugal currently is heading the Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council, said the sources.
