Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed road police chief as deputy interior minister following the deadly attack at a Moscow airport, the Kremlin press service said on Monday.

The new deputy prime minister will be responsible for transport security.

"I have decided to create one more position of deputy (interior) minister who will be responsible for the transport situation and appoint Col. Gen. Viktor Kiryanov to this post," the president was cited by local media as saying.

On last Monday, a powerful blast occurred in the arrivals zone of Russia's biggest Domodedovo airport, killing 35 people and leaving over 130 injured. About 123 injured people were still hospitalized.

So far, no group has yet taken responsibility for the attack.

After the blast, Medvedev has vowed to adopt tougher security measures to ensure transport safety and sacked several officials in charge of transport security.
