Russian authorities released an Israeli citizen wanted by Colombia for alleged participation in training the anti-government rebels in this South American country, Interfax news agency reported on Friday.
Yair Klein, a former airborne forces colonel, has been wanted by Interpol's arrest warrant since 2001. He was detained in Moscow in August 2007. Colombian court sentenced Klein to 11 years in prison.
"Klein is on his way to Israel," a source from a Russian law enforcement body told Interfax.
In October 2010, European Court in Strasbourg said the Israeli national could be tortured in Colombia if extradited there by Russia and thus banned his extradition.
