Flooding hit parts of southwestern Britain overnight trapping people in their homes and cars and disrupting transportation linking with other areas.
Police said they were dealing with a "major flooding incident" after heavy rain and strong winds caused severe problems in Cornwall county.
Two search and rescue helicopters had been sent to free people trapped in cars and homes in flood water and coastguard teams were working with emergency services to evacuate flooded buildings across coastal communities.
The flood water, up to 2 meters in some places, forced main roads closed and a landslide stopped train services in and out of the county.
People were advised not to travel, but there were no reports of death or injuries.
