Polar bear at Moscow Zoo suffers gunshot wounds

A polar bear of Moscow Zoo, which was shot by a gunman in late October, was currently in full treatment by veterinary doctors, according to the Moscow municipal government's information center.

Doctors were trying to prevent the male bear named Vrangel, which suffered from multiple gunshot wounds from inflammation, said a statement from zoo officials on Saturday.

"We express our deep indignation over the behavior of those who committed this indecent action. The 'sniper' probably feels himself a hero. But is there any heroism in shooting a helpless animal from a safe place? Vrangel did not deserve such attitude," said the statement as quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency.

According to zoo officials, Vrangel, which was not shown to the public and could only been seen from windows of a neighboring building, was shot by a gunman from the building.
