Due to the truck owners' strike, there are fears that there will be shortages of fuel and severe problems in the distribution of other goods across Greece.

Thousands of Greek drivers who plan to travel within the country by car for their summer holidays over the next few days form long queues in front of gas stations in Athens to fill up their cars.

Local officials express fears that major problems could be caused by the strike also to sea transportation, since the labor union has warned that the truck owners will not make exemptions and will not deliver fuel even to vessels sailing to the Greek islands.

Greek analysts point out that the image of chaos in transportation at the peak of the tourism season will not be helpful, as the EU-IMF auditors make a first full review of the country's economic Stability and Development Program since the activation of the financial support mechanism for the Greek economy in May.

The troika will draw up a report in August on the basis of which a second tranche of the economic aid package for the Greek economy will be disbursed.
