As speaker of parliament, Komorowski took on the duties of acting president after the crash in accordance with the constitution. The presidential elections originally set for October has to be brought forward to early June.
Komorowski is regarded as a center-right politician eager to push for political unity and a greater Polish presence in the EU.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski was born 45 minutes earlier than his twin brother Lech Kaczynski on June 18, 1949 in Warsaw. The twin brothers in 1962starred in a kids' movie, "The Two Who Stole the Moon."
Jaroslaw Kaczynski earned a doctorate in law from the University of Warsaw in 1976. Throughout the 1980s, he was active in the anti-regime movement of Solidarity.
In 2001, Jaroslaw Kaczynski co-founded the socially conservative Law and Justice party (PIS) with his brother. PIS is conservative on social and moral issues and left-leaning on the economy, favoring more state spending and opposing privatization.
