A Macedonian court on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for four murders and two murder attempts, news from Skopje said.
The Criminal Court of Skopje found the 29-year-old Viktor Karamarkov guilty of the killings that were committed between March and October in 2009.
All the victims were elderly women. It was claimed that Karamarkov would show up at the victims' door begging for money for his supposedly ill mother and then hit them on the head before taking their jewelry.
The prosecution described Karamarkov's motives for the murders as "bizarre", saying that Karamarkov is a drug addict and he used the money to buy drugs.
Karamarkov denied the charges and his defense lawyer said he will lodge an appeal for the ruling.
