Belarus was not going to quit the customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, Sidorsky decided not to attend a customs union meeting with his Russian and Kazakh counterparts at St. Petersburg.

"There are still many unresolved issues, so prime minister's arrival to the meeting is unfeasible," the RIA Novosti news agency quoted Sidorsky's spokesperson as explaining his decision.

The "unresolved issues" may possibly mean an ongoing dispute over gas prices between Minsk and Moscow.

Belarus insisted that Russia should sell gas to Belarus at domestic prices, but Moscow demands Minsk pay international market prices.

The dispute has also become the main obstacle barring the customs union between the three countries from beginning official operation. Putin has announced the delay of its operation from the originally scheduled July 1.
