As much as 3,000 kg of marijuana was seized from a cruise ship sailing in the North Sea near the northern Dutch city of Helder last week, the Dutch military police said Sunday.

The suspicious ship was spotted by the Dutch Coastal Guard during a routine air patrol Friday. The Dutch military police then carried out a search on the ship Saturday night and found the large amount of marijuana.

Four people on the ship were arrested, including a 60-year-old Dutch citizen, whose false documents showed him as a 50-year-old Belgian. The other three were two men, aged 36 and 38 respectively, and a woman, aged 23.

The military police also searched another cruise ship in the nearby area but found nothing suspicious.
