Funerals of Russian mine blast victims underway

First five victims of the explosions at Raspadskaya coal mine in Russia's Southern Siberia took place on Tuesday, Itar-Tass news agency reported.

The funerals were held in Mezhdurechensk, Kemerovo region, where the mine was located.

The funeral cortege passed along the main street of the town joined by officials of the Raspadskaya coal company.

According to Itar-Tass, 52 people are confirmed dead, 38 missing, 70 to 84 wounded, 79 are hospitalized.

Every family of the miners perished will receive compensation of 1 million rubles (about 33,300 U.S. dollars), Itar-Tass reported. The injured miners will get 6,600 to 13,300 dollars.

Since the start of the decade, this is the 14th mine accident in Kemerovo region.
