Greek President Karolos Papoulias expressed condolences on Wednesday afternoon to the families of the three bank employees who died during a demonstration against austerity measures earlier in the day, making a plea for calm.
About 40 people were injured, most of them are policemen and citizens and 20 suspects for causing damages were arrested, according to the latest information. "Greece reached a step from abyss. It is the responsibility of all of us not to fall in. History will judge us all. Strictly," Papoulias said.
"I cannot easily find words to express my pain and anger for the death of our compatriots. They fell victims of raw violence that has nothing to do with the values of our democracy," he added.
"I want to reassure people in pain that the state will do anything so the responsible for this crime will be prosecuted. The most significant thing these days is to safeguard the social peace" , Papoulias said.
