Registered new personal cars in January 2010 stood at 15523 unit, 37.4 percent more than January 2009, according to statistics issued by Car Sweden on Monday.

“Personal car registration increased substantially in January and that proved the trend we have seen during the latest months with a bounce back in the car market,” said Bertil Molden, CEO of Car Sweden.

“Meanwhile we should remember that January in 2009 was a very weak month due to impact of the financial crisis.”

He said that increased car sales boost growth and employment and is positive from both an environmental and road safety perspective as it contributes to a renewal of an ageing Swedish car pool.

Molden said that trucks registration for the first time since July 2008 show a positive sign of 5 percent up to 2290 with light trucks up 22.7 percent.

“Both environmental cars and diesel cars continue to increase, which is good for environment, ” said Molden.

The number of registered environmental friendly cars increased by 50.2 percent to 5621 unit from previous month compared with 36.2 percent in January 2009.

The number of diesel cars also increased by 50.2 percent in January compared with 44.6 percent last January.

Newly registered personal car with highest emission of carbondioxide 120g per kilometer increased by 111.5 percent while the 140 per kilometer emission type increased by 128.7 percent.

In Sweden, those who buy a new car should register so that it is easy to see the new trend of the market.
