Most construction projects of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics were well underway, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Sochi on Tuesday.

Of 235 projects, 220 were currently being implemented, said Medvedev at a preparation meeting for the Olympics.

Only 15 projects were delayed because of problems such as land confiscation, he said, urging relevant departments to speed up compensation process for confiscation.

All of these problems would not affect the construction work of the Olympic facilities, said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak atthe meeting.

About 30 Olympic sites will be commissioned in Sochi this year, with the main transportation infrastructure completed by September,2012, and all construction work finished by July, 2013, local media reported.

During a meeting between Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge in last December, Putin pledged to fully implement the infrastructure construction plan for the Sochi Olympics.

Putin said the design of 42 out of the 123 facilities have been completed and the construction and decoration of 49 others have started.

Russia's black sea resort city of Sochi won the right to host the 2014 Winter Olympics in July, 2007, the first ever for Russia.
