A small private plane with six people on board made an emergency landing Wednesday in a Macedonian apple orchard, news reaching here from Skopje said.

The single-engined Piper plane was found engine failed on its way from Croatia's coastal town Zadar to Macedonia's capital city Skopje, Macedonia's Crisis Management Center said.

The pilot was trying to make a forced landing on the Skopje-Tetovo highway, but the heavy traffic on the road forced him to land the plane in an orchard on the roadside.

Officials said the four passengers, including two children, and two crew members are all Macedonians. Only the pilot sustained small scratches upon impact.
