Representatives from European news agencies will gather in the Croatian capital city of Zagreb this week to discuss news agencies' role at a time of economic crisis, organizers said Monday.

The three-day conference, which is sponsored by Croatian news agency Hina and opens Wednesday, will gather representatives of the management and editorial boards of the members of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA).

"The EANA gathers leading news agencies from 31 European countries, and representatives of 28 agencies have confirmed their attendance so far," Hina Director General Smiljanka Skugor-Hrncevic said.
