At least seven people were killed and 16 others injured in a bus fire in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, officials said.

"The fire occurred on a public bus at noon in the Slavic region in Donetsk," Igol Krol, spokesman for the emergencies ministry, said.

"A total of 30 passengers were on board. Seven people were killed, 16 injured, and the fate of the other seven passengers remains unclear," Krol said.

He said it took about 20 minutes for rescuers to extinguish the fire.
