Russian President Dmitry Medvedev cut short his visit to India and returning home as Russian Patriarch, Alexei-II, head of the Orthodox Church died in Moscow, according to the Asian News International Friday.
Medvedev, who arrived in New Delhi Thursday night on a three-day visit, will leave for Moscow on Friday evening. He was scheduled to leave on Saturday morning.
According to Russian officials, he has also canceled his tour to Italy, the report said.
India and Russia Friday strengthened their ties by signing 10 pacts, including an agreement on civil nuclear cooperation, and decided to intensify their cooperation in combating terrorism.
The pacts were signed in diverse areas ranging from space and defense to finance and tourism. The agreements were signed in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
