Equatorial Guinea's President Teodoro Obiang said Friday that the State's Chiefs of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), gathered in Lisbon, are discussing the full entrance of his country into the organization.
After attending the opening session of the 7th CPLP summit, Obiang told the press, "Equatorial Guinea was discovered by the Portuguese and we must associate it with the Portuguese language."
The CPLP is formed, besides Portugal, by Brazil, Eastern Timor, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, and Saint Tome and Price, all of the former Portuguese colonies.
The biannual summit began Thursday with the Ministerial meeting where Senegal was accepted as observer.
The CPLP was created in 1996 as a cooperation forum, with eight members and a total population of 240 million.
