Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos Wednesday said authorities are still looking for two politicians kidnapped by the rebel group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Councilman Dagoberto Ojeda and mayoral candidate Ferney Satizabal, together with 18 people, were abducted by FARC militants Tuesday while sailing off the coast of Tumaco in southwest Colombia.

The 12 adults and six children were later freed by the FARC and sent to a local hospital for a medical checkup, while the two politicians are still missing.

Santos said he had put National Navy commander Admiral Alvaro Echandia in charge of rescuing the two politicians.

Many illegal militant groups are active in the region around Tumaco, one of the main spots from where Colombian drugs are trafficked to Ecuador and Central America.
