The former Brazilian Minister of Cities Marcio Fortes was named on Tuesday the head of the Olympic Public Authority for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, after participating in a debate with the Senate's Economic Affairs Committee.
Fortes was nominated on June 21 by president Dilma Rousseff, since the former Central Bank president Henrique Meirelles, who had been nominated previously, will head the Superior Council of the Olympic Public Authority. 'In the debate with Brazilian senators on Tuesday morning, Fortes said errors and delays in the preparations for the Olympics and Paralympics in 2016 are "unacceptable".
Fortes also said his experience in the Ministry of Cities would help a lot in the new mission.
