Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez vowed to recover from his disease and thanked his supporters Monday upon returning from cancer treatment in Cuba.

"We will win this battle too, and we are going to win it together," Chavez told his supporters on the balcony of the Miraflores presidential palace in Caracas.

"Long life to Chavez!" the president said, waving a large Venezuelan flag.

However, Chavez said he is still undergoing strict medical treatment. He returned to Venezuela early Monday morning from Cuba, where he underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumor on June 10.

Venezuela is celebrating the 200th anniversary of its independence on Tuesday.
