Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday returned from Cuba, where he received a surgery for removing a cancerous tumor, the state-owned VTV reported.

Chavez's plane made a predawn landing at an airport near the capital, just in time for him to take part in the celebrations of the bicentennial of Venezuela's independence, it reported, showing images of the president leaving Havana and arriving in Caracas.

Speaking to VTV upon his return, Chavez said he was feeling great. "I am well. I am happy."

Chavez had been in Cuba for weeks for medical treatment and last week he disclosed that a cancerous tumor was removed from his body. There had been no word on his return date until the news report.

According to Cuban media reports, Chavez was seen off at the airport by Cuban leader Raul Castro. The Venezuelan leader arrived in Havana on June 8 and received the surgery on June 11, they said.
