A total of 21 people died in Bolivia during the last two days in traffic accidents related to the extra traffic caused by the Labor Day holiday, officials at Bolivia's national police department said Tuesday
Freddy Betancourt, head of the Accident Division of the police, told
reporters at a press conference that most of the fatalities were caused by the "imprudence of drivers", which also resulted in 151 reports over violations of traffic laws.
One of the most serious accidents happened Sunday afternoon in a rural part of the highway between eastern Achacachi and La Paz when a pickup truck crashed into a car in an accident which left eight members of one family dead, said traffic police commander Waldo Avendano.
According to police investigations preliminary reports showed that the
driver of the pickup truck provoked the accident when he invaded the opposite highway lane, Avendano said.
