Haiti's presidential runoff election begins

Haitians went to the polls on Sunday for a presidential runoff pitting former first lady Mirlande Manigat against popular singer Michel Martelly.

The polling stations opened at 6:00 a.m. local time (1100 GMT).

According to the Provisional Electoral Council, about 4.5 million Haitians will cast their votes at 1,186 poll centers, to elect a successor to incumbent President Rene Preval.
