Earthquake hits South Sandwich Islands

An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted South Sandwich Islands region at 10:32 p.m. Beijing Time Sunday, the China Earthquake Networks Center said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 90 km, was determined to be at 56.1 degrees south latitude and 27.2 degrees west longitude.
