Mauricio Funes arrived in Havana on Monday for the first visit paid by a Salvadoran president to Cuba in 50 years.
Accompanied by several cabinet ministers and 40 businessmen, he is scheduled to meet his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro later in the day.
Also on Monday, there will be a meeting between the visiting Salvadoran businessmen and Cuban officials in the food, pharmaceutical, services, aviation and other sectors.
It has not been confirmed if Funes will meet former Cuban leader Fidel Castro during the visit. "I interviewed Fidel as a journalist in 2004 and will have a pleasure to greet him," said the Salvadoran president.
On Tuesday, Funes will visit the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) and will sign cooperation agreements with the Cuban government.
