Recently, Castro has repeatedly warned of the danger of a global nuclear war.

Castro said on Sunday that the United States was in a checkmate concerning the possibility of an imminent attack on Iran.

"The Yankees are in a checkmate, no matter how intelligent they are," Castro said at a meeting with the Cuban journalists, where he presented his argument about the threat of a nuclear war.

Castro stressed the devastating consequences of a nuclear war for the world, saying that nobody would survive after such a war broke out.

He said that U.S. President Barack Obama was the one who would decide whether a nuclear war would occur.

"He (Obama) has the constitutional power. He has the say. What he can ask for is only one thing, peace," Castro said.
