The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) shouldn't present its opinion on the country's decades-long armed conflict at a regional summit, the government said Monday.

Vice President Angelino Garzon told reporters here he does not think the FARC rebels should present their position on the country's internal conflict at an international level.

"President Juan Manuel Santos has said that to build peace roads we do not need mediators," he added.

Garzon also urged the FARC to directly acknowledge that its conduct of violence "is not justified."

The FARC said it intends to seek a political solution to the conflict in Colombia, but wants to explain their proposal at a upcoming summit of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur).

In a letter addressed to Unasur, the group says it is ready to explain its "vision of the armed conflict in Colombia."
