One military personnel was killed and another seriously injured on Thursday in a bomb explosion in Corinto Municipality of Cauca department in southwest Colombia, local media reported.

The explosion occurred when a military vehicle was passing by, and the bomb, allegedly placed by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), also caused damage to at least 10 nearby buildings.

The attack took place at the bottom of La Cruz Hill, where the Army has a checkpoint. According to Cauca authorities, the bomb was detonated when many soldiers were coming back from the mountain area.

Witnesses told local radio station Noticias Caracol that the explosion was quite powerful.

Corinto's Mayor Andres Tovar said that the local authorities will review the damage and report to the central government.

Hours before the explosion, the local police seized two anti- aerial fusils from the guerrilla and detained four people who were transporting them by a taxi.
