"Craigslist Killer" Philip Markoff commits suicide in jail

The American medical student jailed for the murder of a prostitiute was found dead in jail due to apparent suicide, according to AFP on Monday.
Philip Markoff was found dead in his cell room in Suffolk County jail in Boston, said the police and the district attorney's office in a statement.
The joint statement said that Markoff was kept alone in his jail room and it indicated that he committed suicide.
"Nonetheless...a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding his death," the statement said.
Markoff, who was a student in Boston University School of Medicine, was arrested in jail for the shooting of Julissa Brisman with a pistol in April last year at the Marriott hotel in Boston.
Markoff's "Craigslist Killer" was named after killing women who like to put erotic ads on the website Craigslist. He was also charged with stealing cash and credit cards from another women, who also posted her services on the website.
