Colombian new president Juan Manuel Santos will meet his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez here Tuesday to solve the simmering row between the two Andean neighbors, officials said Sunday.

Colombian foreign minister Maria Angela Holguin made the announcement after a meeting with her Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro, who attended Santos' inauguration ceremony on Saturday as envoy of Chavez.

The two foreign ministers had "frank and direct" talks and agreed that the two sides would work to restore relations, she added.

The meeting will be held in Bogota on Tuesday 10, August, Venezuelan foreign minister Maduro told reporters at the headquarters of the Colombian Foreign Ministry.

"On Tuesday at midday, here in Colombia, the two presidents, President Chavez and President Santos, will have the opportunity ... to talk and to make all decisions to promote the highest level of relations between the two countries," Maduro said.

Venezuela broke off ties with Colombia on July 22 after Bogota accused Caracas of harboring Colombian rebel groups on its soil.
