A light plane carrying four people onboard flown from San Diego to Fullerton, Orange County near Los Angeles crashed on Monday, causing one death and four injuries.

A woman riding in the front passenger seat aboard the single- engine Velocity Super XLRG5 died at the scene shortly before 1 p.m. (0800 GMT) after the home-made plane went down on Admiral Baker Golf Course near Interstate 15 in San Diego County, police and San Diego Fire Rescue Department said.

Four others, including three children, were sent to hospital for treatment by ground ambulance. All of the victims are in critical conditions, authorities said.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration report, the pilot had radioed the tower to report that a door on the plane was stuck open and he was heading back to the airport to make an emergency landing, and the crash was reported a short time later.

It was the second deadly light-plane crash to occur in the San Diego area in a week.

A twin-engine Beech 95-B55 went down in a field behind an Oceanside primary school and burst into flames, killing the pilot and an 83-year-old sole occupant on Tuesday morning.
