Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro Tuesday met with Uruguayan President Jose Mujica, as he is making a "tour for peace" to several South American countries to seek understanding on Venezuela's recent tensions with Colombia.

According to the website of the Uruguayan President, Maduro expressed to Mujica "Venezuela's concern about the aggressive atmosphere" in Colombia.

Maduro conveyed a request of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for "understanding and cooperation of Latin American countries to achieve peace in the region."

Maduro also met with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo on Monday.

He will continue his peace tour to Argentina to meet with Argentine President Cristina Fernandez and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.

Venezuela broke off diplomatic ties with Colombia on July 22, after Colombia accused it of hiding Colombian guerilla chiefs in its territory. Tensions have been running high between the two neighbors.
