Interior Minister Fernando Gomez Mont will be replaced by Jose Francisco Blake Mora, the interior minister of Baja California State which borders the United States, he told a press conference from his office.
"I have decided to accept the resignation of Fernando Gomez Mont," Calderon said. "With the completion of the election, Gomez has completed a cycle."
"I am convinced that Blake has the credential and the experience to be a success at the interior ministry," Calderon said, adding that Blake faces two challenges in his new post.
"Taking on the fight against organized crime and for the security; and discussions with all Mexico's political forces."
Mexico's Interior Minister also manages the president's relationship with the two chambers of the national legislature, and with the governors of the country's 32 states.
