Brazil's Federal Highway Police (PRF) said on Thursday they seized 21.5 tons of marijuana in the southern Parana state, the largest drug seizure ever made in the country.
The drug was found in a truck loaded with wood and metal blocks near the city of Foz do Iguacu, some 20 km away from the Paraguayan border.
The truck driver was arrested and will be charged with drug trafficking. If convicted, he may face a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
Parana state is one of the most used routes by drug dealers, as it sits near both the Paraguayan border and Sao Paulo, one of the largest markets in Brazil.
Last year, 22.4 of the 61.9 tons of marijuana seized in Brazil were found in the state.
