At least one was killed while some 250 families in El Salvador were evacuated and taken to temporary shelters early on Sunday due to downpours.

The Salvadorian Red Cross said the evacuations took place mostly in central El Salvador where the El Tunco River and El Garrobo Stream overflowed.

The National Service of Territorial Studies (SNET) said the heavy rains, caused by a tropical wind from the Carribean, would continue but with moderate intensity.

In another development, the Dominican Republic has issued a warning against flash flooding after being hit by heavy rains.

The National Office of Meteorology said the tropical wave had caused heavy rains and thunder storms in the southeast and northeast of the country. It did not report casualties at the moment.

The same agency forecasted that moderate to strong rains would continue in most of the country. It also warned of possible flooding in the eastern part of the country.
