At least 10 people were killed and several others injured during a collision of two trains in the western state of Sinaloa in Mexico, said the state prosecutor's office on Tuesday.
The General Prosecutor's Office of the State (PGJE) said in a statement that the accident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. local time (0800 GMT) in Sufragio Station in El Fuerte municipality, located in the north of Sinaloa.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident occurred because one of the machinists was not informed that another train was being repaired in the same place.
The train loaded with corn was not able to stop and crashed against the parked train.
The rescue works were suspended for many hours, as special machinery is needed to be used to remove the damaged boxcars of both trains.
Among the victims there were many undocumented immigrants.
