A 59-year-old Chinese American who was beaten during a brutal attack in the U.S. city of Oakland last week was taken off life support earlier Tuesday and has died, local ABC7 television station reported.

The beating occurred last Friday in Oakland's Uptown neighborhood when Tiansheng Yu, 59, and his son, 27-year-old Jin Cheng Yu came from San Francisco to shop in Oakland's Uptown neighborhood.

Tiansheng Yu sustained a serious head injury during the attack and had been in the intensive care since then.

Two suspects, 18-year-old Lavonte Drummer and 18-year-old Dominic Davis, both of Oakland, are being held on suspicion of assault, local police said on Tuesday.
