Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Wednesday that Real Madrid player Kaka is "essential" for success of the Brazilian team at the World Cup taking place in South Africa in June.

Kaka, who was elected the best player in the world in 2007, suffered a series of injuries last year and since then his performance is not meeting the fans expectations in Madrid.

"I think Kaka is perhaps facing a more difficult moment in his career. Not only because of injuries, but also because Real Madrid team is almost a paintings exhibition. Many artists playing together is too much competition.

I think Kaka is essential for Brazilian team, he remains a great player but is going through a delicate time," he said.

The star of the Brazilian team is currently suffering from a strained adductor muscle and is expected to return shortly to the Real Madrid starting lineup.

Lula, a well-known football fan, further explained that his recent statement that he will attend the final in South Africa was no presumption; he will be there because Brazil will host 2014 World Cup.

"I have a commitment to go to the final of the World Cup because there will be a closing ceremony to "pass the baton" to Brazil," he explained.

Lula said that, anyway, he expects the Brazilian team to dispute the World Cup final. On occasion, the Brazilian president's presence will have the status of an official visit to South Africa as part of a tour of five African countries.
