U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Mexico City on Tuesday, heading a team of senior officials for a meeting with their Mexican counterparts including Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa, Mexican broadcasters reported.

Clinton's second visit to Mexico in her current post is part of a series of reviews of the Merida Initiative, a U.S.-Mexico project aimed at fighting cross-border drug trafficking. Mexico receives around 400 million dollars a year under the plan, which also spreads anti-organized crime funding across Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Clinton and Espinosa are expected to discuss last week's murder of three U.S. consular officials in the border city Ciudad Juarez, which was linked to drug violence there. Juarez is the world's most violent city and responsible for close to 40 percent of murders in Mexico.
